What gets in the way

Three reasons green claims
are now risky

Most claims weren't built on calculations
A footprint takes weeks. It costs thousands of euros. For hundreds of products, the cost adds up to years of work. The old way was built for one product at a time.
Either prove it, or stay silent
Your product data lives in many places. ERP, PLM, supplier files, spreadsheets. None of it was set up for carbon footprint work. Cleaning it up is a project on its own, before the LCA even starts.
Without an audit trail, a claim is exposed
The Empowering Consumers Directive (ECGT) requires a clear trail showing how each claim was reached: the methodology, the data, and the PCR applied. Without it, even a true claim becomes a legal problem.
How Root solves it
From general claims

to real proof
Calculate a footprint per product. Document the trail.

Connect the trail to the claim. Update as products change.

Step  1
Calculate a footprint for every product
Root produces a methodology-transparent, PCR-aligned product carbon footprint for every product in your catalogue.

Every green claim now has a specific calculation behind it, not a general claim.
Step  2
Document the full evidence trail
Every footprint comes with the full trail behind it: data sources, emission factors, methodology, and assumptions.

This is the audit trail the regulators who enforce it ask for.
Step  3
Connect each claim to its calculation
Root makes it clear which calculation backs which claim. The PCR applied, the data inputs, the result.

No gap between what you say and what you can prove.
Step  4
Recalculate as products change
When a product is reformulated or a supplier changes, Root recalculates the footprint automatically.

The evidence behind every claim stays up to date without a new study each time.
A claim without a calculation is just words.
Root puts a calculation behind every claim you make.
Want a verified
green claim for every product?
What you get
Every claim has a calculation behind it
Every green claim on your packaging, your website, and your marketing now has a verified LCA behind it, aligned to the right PCR. The methodology, the data sources, the emission factors, and the PCR are all documented. When a regulator asks for the evidence behind a claim, you have it.

For the first time, your claims and your data are the same thing. The same dataset that backs your green claims also powers your EPD, DPP, and Scope 3 reporting. No duplicate work, no separate set of proof for marketing.
Benefits
Three ways verified claims pay off
The conversation with regulators changes
When a regulator or buyer asks for the evidence behind a claim, you have an immediate, traceable answer. Green claims stop being a legal liability you defend after the fact. They become a credential you lead with.
Every team has the proof they need
Your marketing team makes specific claims, not vague ones. Your legal team approves sustainability copy without back-and-forth. Your sales team answers buyer questions on the spot, with the data already in hand.
Verified claims stand out from generic ones
Buyers and consumers no longer trust generic supplier badges and broad sustainability labels. A verified LCA per product carries weight that generic claims don't. Retailers who can prove their claims stand apart from retailers who can't.
Why it matters
Anti-greenwashing law is now
backed by hard penalties
Anti-greenwashing rules are in force. The European Commission found 42% of green claims online were false or misleading. Penalties under ECGT now reach 4% of annual turnover.

FAQs
Find quick answers to the most common questions about Root,
our methodology, data requirements, and timelines.
Which claims need substantiation under ECGT?
Any environmental claim made about a product to consumers. That includes packaging copy, marketing materials, website language, and labels. The directive covers explicit claims (numbers, percentages, comparisons) and implicit ones (general sustainability language).
We use generic sustainability labels. Are those enough?
Under ECGT, a generic label without a verified LCA behind it is no longer enough. The directive targets vague claims and supplier labels that don't have proof behind them. Root provides the per-product LCA evidence the directive requires.
What if our claim is true but we can't prove it on paper?
Under ECGT, the burden of proof sits with you. A true claim without a paper trail is treated the same as one with no proof at all. Root produces the documentation for every footprint, so the proof exists alongside the claim.
Do we need a new LCA every time we update a product?
No. Root recalculates the footprint automatically when a product is reformulated, a supplier changes, or a material is updated. The evidence behind your claims stays accurate without a new study each time.
How does this connect to our other sustainability work?
The same dataset that backs your green claims powers your EPD, DPP, and Scope 3 reporting. One data foundation. Every report, footprint, and sustainability claim draws from the same source.
