We started Root because
we lived the problem
Gijs led hundreds of LCA studies as Sustainability Data Scientist at Philips. He believed in the work. He hated the way it had to be done. Every study meant months of Excel, chasing suppliers for missing data, and catching errors at the last minute. Worse, the work lived everywhere and nowhere. Scattered across systems, spreadsheets, and people, with no single place to organise it. Every study finished too late to actually shape the decisions it was meant to inform. He quit with the idea to build a solution that would fix it.
Maud was leading product and engineering teams, building software people used every day. She loved the work, but wanted to care more about what she was building it for. She had spent years automating work humans were doing by hand. She knew that with the right team and a mindset that lives the user's problem, the right system could fix any problem. She quit to put the craft behind something that mattered.

A manual LCA is roughly 20.5 hours per product across 7 steps, or about 1,025 hours for a typical group of 50 products. Root brings the same group to around 24 hours by working at group level. That is about 0.5 hours per product, or a 20-hour saving per product. The 50-product group is a conservative average; retailers with larger assortments save more.
